FAQ

Q: How does this program work?

A: Thank you for asking, below you will find more information about the program.

  1. We kindly request that you fill out a canine spay/neuter application. At this time, we are asking that when you fill out the application, you please contribute at least $20 towards your pet's spay or neuter through the Donation link. This contribution must be paid before your spay/neuter request will be reviewed.

  This contribution is non-refundable.

  1. Email us a photo of your pet. (We're excited to meet them, virtually)
  2. We will post a photo of your beautiful pup on our social media platforms to raise the rest of the money required for the services.
  3. Once the funds have been raised, we notify you with the available appointment dates our partner provides. Once we find a date that works,  we will book the appointment for you.

Please note: Important Notice for 2026

Due to an ongoing veterinary staffing shortage, our current veterinary provider is only able to offer spay and neuter appointments on Mondays in 2026.

As a result, appointment dates may be scheduled several months out. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue working to provide affordable services to our community despite these limitations.

Q: Is this program available for all dog breeds?

A:
While all dogs deserve access to affordable care, our current eligibility guidelines are based on local shelter statistics. Each year, our county shelters see the highest number of intakes from American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Labradors, Large-Breed Hounds, such as Coonhounds, and mixes of all the above. Concentrating our efforts on these breeds helps prevent overpopulation where it occurs most.

Q: What if I live outside of Charleston County?

A: We love that you are looking into options to have your pet spayed/neutered!  At this time, our program is only available for residents of Charleston County.

Q: Can I choose my service provider?

A: No. At this time the program is coordinated through specific designated providers.

Q: Do you provide ala carte services such as vaccines only?

A: No, the facility that we partner with does not have a public wellness clinic. They can only offer vaccines, and or microchips at the time of your pets spay/neuter surgery. For vaccines only, please look into low cost vet clinics in your area.

Q: Will I receive pre-op and post-op instructions to prepare my pet for surgery and provide appropriate aftercare for them?

A: Yes, the veterinary provider will offer specific pre-op instructions, as well as aftercare guidelines to ensure your pet's comfort once they return home. Please take the time to read them thoroughly.
